Namibia Bespoke Holidays

Namibia is a destination of extraordinary landscapes, vast open spaces and remarkable wildlife. From the towering dunes of Sossusvlei and the rugged Skeleton Coast to Etosha National Park and the ancient landscapes of Damaraland, a private Namibia holiday offers an experience unlike almost anywhere else in Africa.

At Earth Trip, we create tailor-made Namibia holidays around your interests, whether you want to photograph desert landscapes, track wildlife, meet local communities, explore the country’s dramatic coastline or combine Namibia with Botswana, Zimbabwe or South Africa.

Namibia’s relatively good road network and spectacular scenery make it particularly well suited to carefully planned private journeys. We arrange the accommodation, private guiding, transfers and experiences so that you can concentrate on enjoying the journey.

Why Choose Earth Trip for Your Namibia Holiday?

Namibia rewards careful planning. The distances between destinations can be considerable, and the best accommodation is often found in remote locations where the journey is part of the experience.

  • Specialist destination knowledge: we understand the different landscapes and wildlife regions of Namibia and can help you decide which are right for your trip.
  • Genuinely bespoke: your itinerary is designed around your interests, travel dates, preferred accommodation and pace rather than a fixed package.
  • Private travel: we can arrange private vehicles, driver-guides, transfers and selected activities to give you greater flexibility.
  • Carefully chosen accommodation: we select lodges and camps for their location, character, service and connection with the surrounding environment.
  • Responsible tourism: we favour experiences and properties that contribute to conservation and local communities.

Meet Your Namibia Specialist

Aleem Raheem is an Earth Trip specialist for Namibia and Southern Africa. His destination knowledge allows him to help travellers decide how to combine Namibia’s very different regions and experiences into one coherent journey.

Whether you are interested in Etosha’s wildlife, the Namib Desert, Damaraland, the Skeleton Coast or a wider Southern African itinerary, Aleem can advise on the most suitable routing, accommodation and timing.

His role is not simply to book individual hotels. We look at how the complete journey works, including distances, transfers, activities, seasonal conditions and the amount of time you want to spend in each location.

Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert

The immense dunes of the Namib Desert are one of Namibia’s defining landscapes. Sossusvlei is particularly famous for its enormous red-orange dunes, white salt and clay pan and the striking dead camel thorn trees of Deadvlei.

Early morning is a particularly atmospheric time to explore the dunes, when the changing light creates dramatic shadows across the desert.

A stay in the Namib region can also include desert walks, scenic drives, hot-air ballooning where available and spectacular opportunities for photography and stargazing.

Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park is one of Namibia’s most important wildlife destinations and a key part of many first-time Namibia itineraries.

The enormous Etosha Pan dominates the park and attracts wildlife to waterholes, particularly during the drier months. Depending on the location and season, visitors may see elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, rhino and a variety of antelope and other wildlife.

Etosha can be experienced as part of a private safari journey, with carefully selected lodges and camps providing different styles of accommodation around the park.

Damaraland

Damaraland combines rugged scenery, ancient rock formations, desert-adapted wildlife and fascinating archaeological sites.

The region is particularly known for its dramatic landscapes and opportunities to search for desert-adapted elephants and black rhino with experienced guides.

Damaraland is also home to important rock art and engravings, providing an opportunity to explore Namibia’s human history as well as its natural environment.

Skeleton Coast

The Skeleton Coast is one of Namibia’s most remote and atmospheric regions. Its combination of desert, fog, rugged coastline and shipwrecks creates a landscape unlike anywhere else in the country.

Travel here is more specialised than visiting Namibia’s better-known southern destinations, but for adventurous travellers it can provide an extraordinary sense of wilderness and isolation.

Depending on the itinerary, access can involve light aircraft and guided excursions, making specialist planning particularly important.

Swakopmund and the Atlantic Coast

Swakopmund provides a change of pace from Namibia’s desert and wildlife regions. The coastal town retains strong German colonial influences and offers a range of restaurants, cafés and outdoor activities.

The surrounding area is ideal for travellers who want to add a little adventure to their itinerary, with activities including desert excursions, scenic flights and other experiences depending on the season.

Caprivi and Northern Namibia

The north-eastern corner of Namibia offers a very different environment from the dry landscapes of the south and west.

The Zambezi Region, formerly known as the Caprivi Strip, contains rivers, wetlands and woodland that support a rich variety of wildlife.

The region can be combined with Botswana, Zambia or Zimbabwe, making it particularly useful for travellers planning a wider Southern African itinerary.

What Can You Do on a Namibia Holiday?

  • Explore the enormous dunes of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei.
  • Go on safari in Etosha National Park.
  • Search for desert-adapted elephants in Damaraland.
  • Discover ancient rock art and archaeological sites.
  • Explore the dramatic Skeleton Coast.
  • Experience Namibia’s spectacular night skies and stargazing.
  • Take a scenic flight over desert and coastline.
  • Explore Swakopmund and the Atlantic coast.
  • Meet local communities and learn about Namibia’s diverse cultures.
  • Combine Namibia with Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia or South Africa.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Namibia?

Namibia can be visited throughout the year, but the best time depends on the experiences you want to prioritise.

The dry winter months from around May to October are particularly popular for wildlife viewing. Vegetation is thinner and animals tend to gather around available water sources, making them easier to spot in places such as Etosha.

The winter months can bring warm, sunny days but surprisingly cold mornings and nights, particularly in desert areas.

The warmer summer months from around November to April bring higher temperatures and the possibility of rainfall. The landscape can become greener and birdlife is particularly rewarding, while some wildlife experiences may be less predictable because animals have more water available.

Our specialists can recommend the best timing based on your intended route and priorities.

How Long Should You Spend in Namibia?

Namibia is a large country, so allowing enough time is important. A rushed itinerary can involve long driving days and leave too little time to enjoy the landscapes and wildlife.

Around 10 to 14 days can provide a good introduction to destinations such as Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland and Etosha.

Two to three weeks allows a more relaxed itinerary and can include additional regions or a combination with neighbouring countries.

Combining Namibia with Other African Destinations

Namibia works particularly well as part of a wider Southern African journey.

You could combine Namibia with the Okavango Delta and Chobe in Botswana, Victoria Falls and Zimbabwe, Zambia’s national parks, or a safari and Cape Town in South Africa.

We can design the route around the experiences that matter most to you and take care of the logistics between destinations.

Responsible Travel in Namibia

Namibia has built a strong reputation for conservation and community-based tourism. Its wildlife conservancies demonstrate how tourism can contribute to protecting landscapes while creating opportunities for local communities.

We believe responsible travel should be considered when choosing accommodation, guides and activities, not added as an afterthought.

Frequently Asked Questions About Namibia Holidays

What is the best time to visit Namibia?

May to October is particularly popular for wildlife viewing because the weather is generally dry and animals tend to gather around water sources. Namibia can be visited year-round, however, and each season offers different advantages.

How many days do I need for a Namibia holiday?

Around 10 to 14 days works well for a first visit covering highlights such as Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland and Etosha. Two to three weeks allows a more relaxed pace and additional destinations.

Is Namibia good for a safari?

Yes. Etosha National Park provides excellent wildlife viewing, while Damaraland offers opportunities to search for desert-adapted elephants and rhino. Namibia’s safari experience is particularly distinctive because wildlife is experienced alongside vast desert and semi-desert landscapes.

Can I drive myself around Namibia?

Yes, self-drive holidays are possible and Namibia is well known for scenic road journeys. However, a private driver-guide can be preferable if you want expert wildlife knowledge, local insight and someone else to manage the long distances.

Is Namibia suitable for a family holiday?

Yes. Namibia can work extremely well for families, particularly those interested in wildlife and outdoor experiences. The itinerary should be planned around children’s ages and sensible driving times.

Can I combine Namibia with Botswana?

Yes. Namibia and Botswana combine particularly well, allowing you to experience Namibia’s deserts and landscapes alongside the wetlands and wildlife of the Okavango Delta and Chobe.

Is Namibia safe for tourists?

Namibia is a popular destination for international travellers, but safety and travel advice can change. We recommend checking the latest UK government travel advice for Namibia before travelling and discussing any specific concerns with our specialists.

What currency is used in Namibia?

The Namibian dollar (NAD) is the local currency. The South African rand is also widely accepted because the Namibian dollar is pegged to it.
